No. There are no preloaded or downloadable maps on the watch. Navigation is breadcrumb-style: a real-time trail of where you have been, TracBack to retrace it, point-to-point navigation to saved waypoints, and course guidance for a route you build or import in the Garmin Connect app and send to the watch.
Does Garmin Pay work in Singapore?
Yes, with participating Singapore banks. You add an eligible card in the Garmin Connect app, set a passcode on the watch, and pay at contactless terminals. Garmin keeps the current list of supported banks and cards at garmin.com/en-SG/garminpay/banks.
Does the AMOLED display have to be always on, and does it charge from the sun?
Always-on is a setting you choose. Left off, the display wakes on a wrist raise or a button press and the battery runs to its longest figures; left on, the 45 mm is rated for 7 days and the 50 mm for 9 days in smartwatch mode. This model charges only from the included Garmin plug charger; there is no solar charging on the AMOLED version.

My first garmin. Bought it for work. I need a rugged and durable watch due to the nature of my job, I can have heavy work where my wrist will clatter off metal, be exposed to oil and grease , dirt and water/rain. I was wearing a G shock which was perfect but I was missing notifications and smart watch features because I wear an Apple Watch Ultra on my days off and fitness so this Garmin Instinct 3 45m Amoled ticks all the boxes for me. G shock style/build, smart watch features. 18 days battery is fantastic, better than the AWU3! The LED flashlight comes in very handy for me. I have a 7 inch wrist and the 45m I feel is more than big enough, the last picture is for size comparison against an AWU3. Very happy with this garmin so far , meets my needs and it was on sale.
More run statistics, larger watch face helpful to read messages and built-in flashlight is great. However very few cards are compatible with Garmin Pay which was a slight bummer.
I love the rugged design of Instinct compared to other models. Hope it is really rugged and not like the previous instinct 2 solar which I had. every time I accidentally dropped it on the floor, either there's no more display or no more illumination during the night.
Would be awesome if it was touchscreen but regardless I love it! Battery life is amazing it’s easy to use and great to have in day to day life and adventures. Got this as a gift to myself on my weight loss journey and use it to track steps calories and distance. So many features it’s crazy! And it cleans up easy as I’m an electrician and wear it to work daily!
After trying another well-known outdoor watch, I decided to replace it with the Garmin Instinct AMOLED, and I’m delighted that I did. The watch is far more intuitive to use, with clearly thought-out menus and simple button operation that works brilliantly for walking and hiking. The AMOLED display is superb—bright, colourful and exceptionally easy to read in all conditions.The activity tracking has inspired much more confidence, and the data appears both sensible and consistent. Although it needs charging, the battery life is still excellent, lasting around a couple of weeks with my normal use. Overall, this is a rugged, comfortable watch that strikes an excellent balance between outdoor capability and everyday wear. Highly recommended.
I wear this watch every night and every day it is very comfortable and has many features. One of my favorite features is the flashlight I use it very often. The battery last for 15 days which is also a plus!
So far I love it. Fits comfortably on my wrist. I’ve not learned all the things it does yet. Would like to figure out how to keep the screen I use during the day to stay on active during the night. I’m sure there’s a way to change it in settings I’ve just not figured it out yet. Over all I’m very pleased with it.

I bought the Instinct 3 as my first smartwatch, though I have used my wife's apple watch for weeks at a time in the past. I have used G-Shock watches for years before buyingthis one. I sprung for the AMOLED display after looking at a friend's solar version and I'm very glad I went with it. So far, it has proven to be very durable, even through various types of workouts, both in and out of the gym, as well as at work as a firefighter. It tracks a ton of useful metrics as far as health and training efficiency goes. I am currently using it to about 60% of what it is capable of and it has already made a big difference in my training and recovery. I also have loved the flashlight or "Torch" feature it has. Red light and 4 levels of brightness. WAY better than my wife's Apple watch. This is an actual flashlight! I also look forward to using the GPS and tracking functions when backpacking season hits again.I bought the 45mm, and for sizing reference I'm 6'1" and 200lbs. The 45mm seems to be about the same size as my G-Shocks. I think I could have gone up to the 50mm and been very comfortable but I'm happy with the screen size and since it's not a touch screen, I don't think there would be much advantage to a larger screen other than for the aesthetics of a larger, heavier watch on your wrist.
Really good price which get it on Black Friday but still really cheap than buy at the store which 100€ more. Fit perfectly on my wrist and work perfectly fine without any issues for now. If anyone want to buy make sure buy cover for charger because it not come with it.
Love this watch, has everything you need. I was looking at the data as I use for running and it has the same run features as the more expensive 265.The torch and redshift actually come in handy too.Battery life is fantastic, getting 2 weeks and that’s also using it for 1-2 hr daily activities
This is my 3rd Garmin watch and 1st with their amoled screen, and it doesn’t disappoint. I’ve also worn an Apple Watch along side my Garmin watches, usually wear the Garmin at work, and I realize some people are partial to the touch screen…but this watch just doesn’t need it and I don’t miss it! The battery life is decent and I keep the screen on as I found the raise to wakes little twitchy. Charging is fast but I will always hate where the port is on the underside, which is standard for Garmin. My last note and complaint, but not about the watch, is I really wish Garmin would re-tool and refine the phone app to be little easier to manage and use as it’s always been less than user friendly. The PC windows app however I find much easier to use and manage all of my and my wife’s Garmin watches.If you’re active, need a rugged watch and don’t need some if the other frills others ‘smart’ watches have then you should consider this.
I upgraded from the Instinct 1 and the Instinct 3 AMOLED is a big step forward. It keeps the same rugged feel, but the AMOLED screen is a game changer, and battery life is still excellent.Sensors and apps perform well so far. I had a small issue pairing it—the app didn’t recognize the watch until I started the sync from the watch itself. After that, no problems.I do wish I could adjust the font size and have more built-in watch faces, but overall, this is a great upgrade and worth it if you're coming from an earlier Instinct model.
I know there’s been a lot of debate around the Instinct 3 — from the lack of maps to the price, and how it stacks up against other models with more advanced features. But personally, I’ve always been a fan of the Instinct 2X Solar — mostly for the rugged looks and the flashlight. I didn’t really mind the monochromatic display, but I always wished for a color one. So the Instinct 3’s color screen was a big win for me.Even without solar charging, the battery life is impressive. Garmin claims 18 days in smartwatch mode, and I’ve been getting around 10–12 days with regular workouts and activities — still very solid.Comfort-wise, I actually found it more wearable than the 2X. It feels lighter, and the 45mm size looks just right on my wrist. I work in construction, so knocking the watch against things is pretty common. I’ve read the screen is tough (and it is), but I still put on a screen protector just in case. That said, it’s taken a few hits and still looks great.The watch faces are fun to mess with, and all the functions are genuinely useful. I use the flashlight almost every night, and the weather + barometer have come in handy on the job.Now, this isn’t the right smartwatch for everyone. I’d definitely recommend doing some research first. For example, I don’t miss the touchscreen at all — in fact, I’ve grown to love the button navigation. I barely need to look at the watch anymore; my muscle memory takes me right where I need to go. The customizable hotkey combos are also a nice touch.be sure to get the right size. The 45mm fits me perfectly, but I totally get why someone might prefer the bigger screen on the larger models.
It’s my third smart watch. I mostly wanted this watch for swimming since my previous watches failed working in water even though they were supposed to. I liked the fact I could use my watch in salty ocean water or swimming pools without lock it for water resistance. The navigation might not be the easiest but I think takes a bit of time to use to it. All in all I would recommend it for sporty people or people who want to track their health( workouts, sleep, stress,…).
I purchased the AMOLED 45 mm Black/Black version of this watch**1. Design & **Overall, this smartwatch has a minimalist design that resembles a standard digital watch from a distance. Up close, it maintains its simple and understated appearance. After nearly a month of use, I cannot fully speak to its long-term durability, but on the occasions it has been accidentally bumped against hard surfaces, it has shown no significant scratches or damage. To further protect this investment, I also purchased a tempered glass screen protector.At the time of purchase, the watch was black and a vibrant tropical theme. It is comfortable to wear, and the band’s design is straightforward yet functional. With previous experience using an Apple Watch, where band quality degraded after 5–6 months of wear (requiring replacements), I have been cautious. However, this band seems promising—it is soft, flexible, and lightly stretchy, giving it a premium and durable feel.The watch is remarkably lightweight, yet it carries a quality heft that doesn’t feel cheap. My work as both a paramedic and an ICU nurse exposes the watch to frequent impacts, varied environmental conditions, and pathogens during hands-on tasks. Thankfully, it holds up well to this demanding usage. Cleaning the watch is simple, and I appreciate that it does not require logging in every time I put it back on, unlike my experience with the Apple Watch.**2. I suspect there may be a technical explanation for this, but I haven’t had the time to investigate further—one of the reasons this watch’s straightforward functionality was a good fit for me.**5. **Per Garmin’s website, this watch has the - Up to 18 days with wrist gesture enabled, or up to 7 days with the always-on display.- Up to 24 days.- Up to 32 hours with GPS only, or up to 23 hours with all satellite systems and multi-band mode.- Up to 16 days.I picked up this watch on February 12th, and as I write this review on March 12th, it has been nearly 30 days since I started using it. Remarkably, I have only charged the watch once for its initial use. As of now, it still has 4 days of battery life remaining.I primarily use the watch in normal mode, with wrist gesture enabled (activates the screen when aligned with your face), an active Bluetooth connection, vibrant display settings, and notifications turned on. I wear it for approximately 16 hours a day and turn it off while I sleep for about 7 hours. For a smartwatch with all these features, the battery life is nothing short of impressive. I estimate that I’ll get about 34 to 36 days on a single charge, accounting for around 8 hours of downtime daily.Battery life, of course, varies depending on usage. Using the battery saver mode could potentially extend it even further. Compared to the Apple Watch, which often drops to 10% battery at the end of a 16- to 20-hour day, this watch’s longevity is extraordinary.**6. Compatibility & **As mentioned previously, this watch is compatible with both iOS (15.0 and higher) and Android (7.0 and higher) operating systems. The Garmin Connect app offers a wealth of customization options, allowing you to personalize the watch’s apps, metrics, displays, and settings.Setup is straightforward, and once I learned the basic functions of the buttons (up, down, select, back, screen off, menu open), using the watch became effortless. The user interface is simple and intuitive, though it can feel slightly overwhelming at first due to the extensive list of preloaded apps, including running, hiking, heart rate, swimming, and more. However, once you take the time to organize and tailor the watch to your preferences, operating and navigating it becomes seamless.**7. **This watch, no doubt, is expensive. Garmin has many watches with many functionalities and levels of durability depending on individual’s preferences. Dollar for dollar in comparison to competitors, it is a good value. Garmin is a trusted name that’s been around for 35 years and has developed products known for their rugged builds that do the job irregardless of the elements. This watch is made of high quality materials with substantial monitoring and metric capabilities with excellent battery life. Other Garmin watches are even more expensive with even more options for back country settings or search and rescue or military operations. These of course cost more, but they hold their value. For the price, and maybe this is just because I’ve been with apple too long, I would at least liked to be able to make or answer a phone call. Touch screen texting drains battery, there is no question, but some degree of being able to communicate with the watch would be nice. In addition, the watch being waterproof to 10 atmospheres is a bonus. Thought I do not plan on diving with this as it doesn’t show depth or temperature or pressure, not having to take it off if I’m swimming or using my hands in the water is a plus. I would have liked to see more than a one year warranty for the watch but it is what it is. This watch also comes in a solar version which in theory, could run unlimited battery life if using outdoors. I considered this but my use of this watch varies between indoors and outdoors and the AMOLED screen is just beautiful to look at and worth having to recharge.****- Beautiful display with options to customize the watch face with data that suits the user- Selection of utilities such as the torch, night mode, tap pay, find my phone - these work great when working in specific jobs- The battery life - I can’t stress enough how nice it is to not have to charge a watch every single day or if you have a long shift and return to work after barely getting enough sleep that you need to figure out how to charge your watch for another whole day.****- Lack of ability to communicate. Having the ability to make a phone call should be paramount to having a smart watch. The watch cannot send out an SOS if lost or requiring help. It can however pair to a Garmin InReach Satellite Communicator which can enable SOS. The Garmin Venu series which is cheaper, offers touch screen features and calling/texting. However, this watch is not as intricate as the Instinct 3.- The Garmin app has some problems with making changes to the watch. As mentioned earlier, I have modified my sleep hours (when the watch goes to sleep mode) and instead, does not recognize the changes. Other times, the watch does sync well, so it’s up and down. I just don’t believe the app is all that great.- The AMOLED watch only comes in one color. While I love the black on black, I would also have enjoyed other color options.****In summary, this smartwatch offers an impressive combination of functionality, customization, and longevity. With its exceptional battery life, robust health and fitness tracking features, and compatibility with both Android and iOS, it meets a variety of user needs effortlessly. While the interface may feel a bit overwhelming initially, the intuitive design and customization options quickly make it easy to operate. After I got my vivoactive5 my husband decided to hop on the Garmin bandwagon and got the new Instinct 3. The rugged design appealed to him and the AMOLED version is really crisp and clean. He really likes that it looks like a regular watch at first glance. Really liking it so far, packed full of features a great active smart watch.
