Hand cranking the VSSL Java G25 beside wildflowers on the trail

Picture this: First light at the campsite. Water's heating on the stove. You clip the Java G25 off your pack, load beans, and crank. Sixty seconds later - fresh grounds.

The crank is the carabiner. Extend it to grind. Fold it back and it locks into a carry clip. No loose parts to lose in the dark.

Made for people who move. Overlanders, campers, sailors, and anyone whose office changes weekly. It rides on a pack strap or in a cup holder.

You know the old way. Pre-ground coffee gone stale by day two. Instant sachets that taste like regret. A bulky home grinder that was never coming along.

The magnets keep it tidy. The grip knob snaps onto the extended handle while you pour, then threads into the catch for storage.

REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL COFFEE DRINKERS

"Is a hand grinder actually good enough for proper coffee?"
This one is. The burrs are high-carbon 420 tool stainless steel, held by dual ball bearings so they never wobble. Even grind size is what separates good coffee from bitter coffee.

"How fine can it go?"
50 click settings. Espresso, pour-over, AeroPress, French press - each has its own zone on the dial.

"How much coffee does it hold?"
About 30 g of beans - enough for a large mug of pour-over or two espressos.

"Will it survive being clipped to a pack?"
The body is 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum - the same alloy used in bike frames. The carabiner handle locks shut.

"What if something breaks?"
VSSL backs it with a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

"Can I wash it?"
Daily: use the included brush. Deep clean: disassemble and rinse the parts in warm water. Don't submerge the whole unit.

Customer photo review of VSSL Java G25 Coffee Grinder | 50-Setting Hand Grinder

Well built product. Perfect travel sized grinder that feels like it could take a beating and keep on working. Easy to use and functions perfectly for my coffee needs. Money well spent.

I love this grinder very durable and easy to use and take with everywhere.

Spectacular!!! Grinds quick, cleans up quicker.

Just buy it, you won’t be disappointed. Exceptional quality! Period

If you want to be able to make coffee on the go and grind t Your beans just the way you want them. Then look no further than the VSSL Java G25 grinder!

Overall this is a great coffee grinder, I use mine at home daily and like that it's small enough to take with me when needed. I grind my beans fairly finely, from 12-14 clicks (I think) off fully closed. I do also 'settle' the beans into the grinder at the start, usually 20-21gr of beans so that the top is easy to close. Two 'pro' tips for use: - put from 1-3 drops of water in with your coffee beans after the beans are in the grinder, especially if you are grinding a robusta bean (which are typically less oily) but I do for all beans - it knocks down the static electricity generated in the beans and makes pouring the grinds very easy and cleanup of loose grinds is minimized as the mess is greatly reduced. - when I grind somewhat small and particularly with hard or crunchy beans, I find my grip on the outside of the grinder can slip so that the grinder rotates in my hand when I turn the crank (and my grip strength is plenty good). I find that if I wet my hand a bit with water before grabbing the grinder to hold it, my grip doesn't slip at all. That's it! have fun!

Smooth precision and great craftsmanship

great coffee grinder, highly recommended

I’m happy with my new G25 grinder. IF I have one complaint, it’s the capability of it. I understand the “25” means it has the ability to grind up to 25 grams. When I add 18-19 grams of beans, I have to finagle the handle back onto the base-almost like I’m pushing beans out of the way. The little output catch is jammed full, too. All-in-all, it’s solidly built and should stand up to my “gorilla finesse”.

Just got my VSSL kit, which includes a grinder. After figuring out water/coffee ratio i ground the beans. Took a little bit to figure out grind size, i think i got it right. Perfect grind consistency and really easy to grind and great cup of pour over. Im impressed.

Compared this to some more expensive options and considering its ruggedness well worth the price.

Great for camping!

It’s a good coffee grinder. It’s expensive, but you can definitely understand the quality of the material. So I like it.

A little hard to hold still with arthritis. Would suggest a rubber handle

Ordered this based on someone’s recommendation and I’m so glad I did. This manual grinder is SO sturdy and easy to use. The grind is very consistent. It’s the perfect size for traveling.

This grinder is built incredibly well, the materials are built to last. All metal, no plastic trash. Great color choices (i got grey) the burr is incredibly tactile as well. Couldn't be happier with it. Very very well thought out

High quality that feels like it will last for a long time.

It works well. Only issue is the top screw that holds the handle was a little bent when I received it. But this didn’t take away from the functionality.

Best grinder I’ve ever used. Smooth and easy and compact. The most satisfying grinding experience. Plenty of grind size options and this thing will work for a lifetime. Solidly build and stylish too (if that matters to you). I use this as part of my travel coffee setup.

Probably the best non-electric grinder on the market, love the 50 different size settings

The VSSL JAVA G45 arrived in my kitchen about two weeks ago, and everything about my morning cup changed with it. The grind is clean, and the coffee tastes rich and is more aromatic than before. I do purchase great beans from a local roaster, ROC2. The craftmanship of the G45 is impeccable, and it is pure art, you can taste that is every sip. I need to do more arm strengthening though! lol ,,, all good I made it work from day one. I reviewed many grinders online for days/weeks, I am glad I chose VSSL G45.

I’m seriously impressed with the Java G45 Coffee Grinder. The quality is top-tier, and you can tell VSSL put real thought into every detail. From the box it arrives in, to the storage bag, to the feel of the grinder itself, nothing about this product feels cheap or rushed. The grind consistency is excellent, and it’s built tough enough for camping, overlanding, or just using at home. I’ve already run a few batches through it and it’s quickly become my go-to setup for making great coffee anywhere. Outstanding piece of gear.

Hands down best hand grinder I have ever used - and I have used many! I recently compared it to the new AeroPress Grinder with a group of 16 coffee experts. All 16 voted this as the best grinder, no questions. Someone said, it's almost as if it's engineering vs. no engineering. And for reference, I use mine multiple times each day, 7 days/week. It's as if it was designed by fanatical engineers and then actually thoroughly tested. One thing to always be aware of prior to purchasing a hand grinder is how smooth the act of grinding is, can you hold it and grind and be able to maintain nice, smooth rotations? Yes, you can. I also always give a light spray of water to the beans prior to loading to reduce static and then periodically I will blow it out with compressed air. As a Q-Grader, small batch artisan roaster who ships around the world and roasts around 7 tons/year. This has been the easiest coffee related item to sell next to my beans! Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

It’s so lovely to have freshly ground coffee beans. This has really upped my coffee game. The coffee is so much fresher, aromatic, and less bitter. I can actually enjoy it black. This grinder his good quality and helps keep my fidgety hands occupied.

This is a fabulous little coffee grinder for back country camping! It’s extremely portable and ridiculously sturdy - which is great because I’m notoriously hard on my gear. And I love the elegant design. Great way to get a fresh cup of coffee off grid!

I have been hand grinding my coffee every morning for 25 years. My Red Rooster Camano finally gave up the ghost and I thought I would try this one. I have been very pleased so far, I just hope it last at least 25 years like the Camano did.

Love this grinder. I have the G25 but wanted something a little larger for out trailer where I make a full carafe of coffee for my wife and I. Works great and i do not have to refill the grinder as often.

Fantastic grinder made of high quality materials. Customer support stated that the G45 would nest inside an Aeropress XL, but it most definitely does not. Still like and will keep the grinder.

I wanted a grinder for travel, this grinder is amazing! I love how simple to use and easy to clean it is. The included cloth case and cleaning brush are a nice touch. It does take a fair amount of arm strength to get it going but once you are use to it, it gets easier.

Easy 10 out of 10. Certainly a high price but worth every penny. The grind is perfect and easily adjustable for whatever I need. Not only is it the nicest, most functional grinder I’ve ever used, it’s also aesthetically pleasing.

Been using this grinder everyday since purchase. No issues still holding strong

It’s a perfect size and make a fantastic cup of joe !

Nice grinder. Good size for travel. Seems to be built well and the grind is consistent

Works well. Grind consistency is excellent. Read/watch instructions as it is not obvious how to get started.

Unknowingly, I purchased this on a whim as I was planning a trip to a cabin with my partner. I bought it in hopes of impressing them as they are more into coffee than I am. Needless to say, this has been a go to item for me now as I continue to grind coffee beans both coarse and incredibly fine. I'd say if you plan on camping, or just want something at home - I would highly recommend this product as it is both compact, and well worth the value. I'd say to go with the larger size one!

Works perfectly with my 9 barista!

The most beautifully engineered coffee grinder I have ever used. Gorgeous design. Well made. Easy to use. Love it!

We love our VSSL Grinder. Build quality and the built in handle is fantastic. We greatly appreciate how it all fits together and is a compact cylinder instead of the separate handle seen on other grinders. The grinder is a bit on the heavy side but the build quality is top notch. One thing we didn't realize before purchasing this grinder is capacity. The G25 capacity with the beans we used was only able to hold 16 to 18g of coffee, since we aim for about 22g we had to go with the G45 as it easily holds 30g+ of coffee.

Preparing for a return to hiking now that we are becoming empty nesters. Didn’t drink coffee pre-kids, but started to avoid a lot of sodas when caffeine became a requirement to make it through the day. The G25 grinder and Nest pour over kit make it so easy. Coffee on Mill Mountain with a view of Mason’s Knob, what a pleasure! Thank you VSSL.

Well, I've only used my grinder about 10 times. It's great. I use it only for espresso atm but could see using it for pour-overs out camping. The construction is well made. When I received mine, the packaging was damaged and there were scruff marks on the handle. I brought this up and they offered me a replacement or an awesome discount for which I chose. It was much appreciated. It is a little tiring to grind espresso by hand, but its smooth operation makes the movement and grinding process easy.
