"Does metal-filtered coffee taste different?" Yes - slightly richer. Paper absorbs the coffee's oils; stainless mesh lets them into the cup. If you like French press body with pour-over clarity, this is that.

"Does sediment get through?" A fine layer can settle at the bottom of the cup - normal for metal filters. Grind slightly coarser and it's minimal.

It works well to catch all the tiny cold brew gunks. It held the water for good 3 seconds. It takes a little for liquid to steep through for the first time. I washed it with water, dried it, then tried the coffee. Both times, the liquid sat there for good 2-3 seconds before it started to drip. Cleaning was a little challenging since the water from other side didn't run smoothly to push out the coffee beans.

I was looking for a more environmentally conscious way of doing pour over and this is almost it. Pour overs tend to vary with a circular hole on the bottom or a straight line with smaller holes, both designs vary in dimensions. The fact the bottom is a straight edge versus a pointed cone shape is limiting for those who have circular hole pour overs. I thought it might work and you could fold it a certain way, but now that I feel the material physically and tested it it won't really work. If you make the bottom pointed, the user can fold over the point for a flat bottom pour over much easier than folding the side to try and make the bottom pointed.

I have traveled with coffee, baking capability for years. Love to have my cup of coffee in the room and I like good coffee. These filters do a great job. They are fine enough to eliminate grounds and settlement, yet allow the coffee to drip through fast enough to be able to enjoy it in a reasonable time. Clean up is pretty good, can’t just throw it all away as I do with paper filters, so I leave a little extra tip for the maid because of the extra mess in the garbage and sink from rinsing. Far better than mesh screens for filtration, and faster than paper filters in a plastic funnel. My only quibble is they are a little short so you can’t or water in too fast or it will overflow.

My first filter came with the Nest Pour Over Kit that I bought back in May, and it's now November and already needing a replacement. I found two cracks in the filter on the edge, the area that is folded. I followed the hand washing only direction and it still has worn down. I wish it would last a bit longer. Other than that, it's a filter and it does it job. I do like how it's reusable. Also wish it was durable enough to put in the dishwasher.

I didn't know I needed this in my life until I tried it. Up front, I'm not a pour-over fanatic at all. Anyone who knows me, knows that I prefer to use a moka pot or make espresso, and on occasion, I'll use a press. We do have a metal pour-over cone in the house, and while the holes in it are very fine and it's almost mesh-like, I never use it because I didn't care for the coffee it made. It always seemed like it was too watery yet had too much sediment at the same time. I never bothered to try a paper filter with it because I figured if the coffee already seemed too watery to me, mitigating the sediment isn't going to change that.What I like about this steel mesh filter is that with the right cup or container, it will work on its own. This is particularly nice if you want coffee while backpacking, because the mesh filter folds flat, takes up almost no space, and barely weighs anything; I'd never try to stick the cone-type in a pack. At home, I can stick it right on top of a wide-mouth Ball mason jar and reasonably eyeball just under 300ml of fluid output. Moreover, the mesh is finer than the metal cone we have, resulting in nice clarity and very little-to-no sediment. The mesh is so fine and smooth that clean-up is quick and easy just by emptying and rinsing the filter. All said and done, with the VSSL filter, I don't mind the occasional cup of pour-over coffee.

This filter works greats for pour-over coffee, and it also delivered great results with my automatic coffee maker. It’s easy to clean, allowing me skip disposable paper filters.The only drawback is that water tends to pool in the filter. I was hesitant to purchase this because the product title used to say #2 while the product description said #1, and I need #1. That has been fixed now, and the filter is indeed a #1. I was hoping to replace my paper filters with it, but I have a pour over machine and this filter sticks out of the top of the basket too much to fit properly (the water tank on my machine spins slowly, and the filter butting up against the water tank prevent the spin). I was still able to make a cup, but the the drawdown time was really short and my coffee was pretty weak. I will try a finer grind to see if that works better and then I'll keep this filter as a backup for when I'm out of filters. Or, I could stop being lazy and just do the pourover manually. I got stuck in the fingers by the fine wires a couple times while washing it, which is kind of annoying.

This mesh coffee filter is great. I got it to use as a travel pour over filter. It is perfect. The filter is firm enough that I can put it in the top of a thermo cup and it stays there. The mesh is fine enough that the water doesn't flow through too quickly when doing the pour over. I have paper filters and the water really run through quickly. The coffee with this mesh filter is much nicer.The one down side is cleaning the filter. You can dump the grounds, but the wet grounds stick to the filter. So you end up with grounds in the sink. Paper filter are much easier to deal with in this regard. But you have to have a pour over funnel for those. But even with this, I like the mesh filter better. Unfortunately my daughter made off with it this fall. :(

I like that I can have fresh brewed coffee even during power outages! This filter is smaller than other cone-type filter I have ever used. Because of that I first boiled the water and I STAYED with the cup until the water went through the filter and occasionally pinching the two ends together to keep it open just to be sure it wouldn't close until I had filled the cup to the end. I recommend using the same amount of coffee that you would use for other filters. The water runs through the filter easily. It also washes very easily. My test coffee cup was excellent.

Today, I made side by side pour over coffees. Two using paper filters and one using this new screen filter. The screen filter definitely made a better and stronger cup of coffee. The paper filters are larger and allow the water to go through pretty easily. The mesh filter is smaller and is a tight weave so the water lingers in the screen longer and I ended up refilling the mesh filter 3 times with water to get a full cup. The end result is a longer seeping time which produces a richer cup of coffee so I am really happy there are 3 screens in the package. I am using 1 for backpacking, 1 for camping, and 1 for home.
